Course Renovations – The Kurrai Course

This week on course the maintenance team have been completing the yearly fairway and green renovations program on the Kurrai course. This includes scarifying of fairways, greens, solid tyne fairways, hollow core in the greens and then top dress with sand. This process usually takes up to 6 days to complete.

The rain on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday nights, over 60mm, whilst very much appreciated, has delayed completion of this process until early next week. With more rain forecast over the next few days it will be a day by day proposition of which jobs are completed.

Therefore, due to areas not being completed on a rain soaked renovated course, in addition to playing tee up, the competition fee will be reduce to $6 with adjusted prizes and an extended ball run down.

Please check the website each day for course and cart updates before you come to golf.  Thank you for your continued support as we strive to enhance your golfing experience at Nudgee Golf Club.

11th Bulka Grass Trial

Over the last few weeks,  the remediation works along the fairway have been occurring. This has involved  treating the existing soil profile, aeration/fertilising, realigning the drainage towards the pits, and planting grass varieties with higher salt tolerance than wintergreen.

We are excited to be laying new grass and turf in the next few weeks, good weather permitting. This essential upgrade is aimed at enhancing the playability and overall condition of our course.

As we embark on this project, we kindly ask all members to exercise caution and adhere to the signs and roped-off areas on the course. Please refer to the daily sheets for updates on any course or holes that may be temporarily closed. The renovation work is expected to take approximately two weeks, during which the 11th fairway will be closed. After work is complete the hole will be reduced to a par 3 as the new grass establishes itself, which will take approx. 6-8 weeks.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this process, as some areas will be temporarily

Your Chance to give us Feedback

The Club Captain, Peter Waugh is currently finalising the 2025 Major Events’ Calendar and would like to give the members the opportunity to provide your feedback on our major events in 2024.

Club Championships (Aged, Midweek and Club Champs) – Our pinnacle event is the Club Championships and in the last two years the Club has trialled a couple of formats with 2023 being a 36 Hole Qualifying, then a cut for the Final 36 Holes and 2024 being a 72 Hole Event.

If you played in the Club Championships then I’d like your feedback on what went well and if you had issues during the event, what would you like to see done differently in 2025?

If you didn’t play, what could the Club do differently to make the Honour Board Event more inviting for you to participate in 2025?

Similarly for Aged and Midweek Championships – what went well and is there anything we could do differently in 2025?

Pennant Golf – Nudgee GC also has a strong tradition of fielding Teams of in the BDLGA, BDGA Inter Club Pennants and Mid Week Seniors (55+Mens). Each Year we have around 80 Men, Ladies and Junior players passionately representing Nudgee in various divisions.

If you represented Nudgee in one of these Teams this year then I’d like your feedback of what you liked about the 2024 Season and if there was something that you’d like to see done differently, then I would like to hear about this as well.

If you didn’t play Pennants this year but you think that you’d like to contribute to Nudgee’s success in 2025 then I would like to hear from you as planning for 2025 has already commenced.  If you’re not a Pennant player but you like to get involved then we regularly need caddies and volunteers behind the scenes.

Any other feedback about Pennants is also welcomed from all Members.

All feedback should be sent to proshop@nudgeegolf.com.au

Golf Course Waterways

During a rain event the Club is subject to weeds flowing into our waterways, finding a home amongst our large ponds.

The last couple of years we have tried removing the weed several times a year but the natural flow of water seems to be helping these weeds spread rapidly, and traditional methods of removal aren’t keeping up with their growth.

The Course Superintendent is trialling a different method. The new biodegradable spray being trialled by the Course Superintendent sounds promising.

If it’s effective, it could offer a more sustainable solution, reducing the need for frequent physical removal. In addition, using a biodegradable solution could be a more environmentally friendly way to manage the problem without harming other plants or wildlife in the area.
